Week 10

Good afternoon!  Hope you are all in good spirits and feeling fine.

Today we meet at the NSU Art Museum at 1:30 p.m. for a field trip.  The address is 1 East Las Olas Blvd. in Ft Lauderdale, 10 minutes from school, and the cost $5.  Parking is available in an adjacent garage.  Bring something with which to record your thoughts and any necessary reference  notes.

The trip is to be the basis for your last assigned essay, essay 5, described in last week's post and here reproduced.  You may base the report on a different venue, if need be, and supplement with internet source material.

Essay 5:  Due week 11, a field report of 450-600 words on art, including the museum venture and anything else relevant to your focus, including subject material found on the web. Reference the particular venue(s) you visit in person, the exhibit title and run dates, and location features as well as particular works for commentary (title, medium, size).  As always, organize the essay around a central point, using multiple examples and supporting detail to flesh it out. Title the essay, double space the lines, indent for paragraphs.  Have fun.

The nytimes.com has published a guide for those who wonder how best to approach a gallery or museum exhibit that is helpful,  and may show you how to navigate the impressions you receive and the information displayed, the context, etcetera.  The author, Daniel McDermon, claims art can make us "feel more fully human" if we take the time to cultivate an understanding of it and let it touch us. So let's see.

Essay 4:  By now you should be done or all but done with the short report (described in earlier posts) on a health topic.  I will be collecting those papers and can look at your work today, too, before class is done. If you are stuck or unsure of how to proceed, please let me know so that I can help you :).
